The School of Electronics and Information Engineering grew out of the Department of Automation established in 1980 when Tianjin Textile and Engineering College was founded. In December 2000, School of Information and Communication Engineering was founded to meet the demands of information-based society in the 21th century and promote the development of such disciplines related to electronics and information. In March 2011, the school was renamed as School of Electronics and Information Engineering. The discipline of the School is one of the disciplines in Tianjin with complete facilities, strong teaching staff and advanced experimental equipments. After decades of endeavor , today the school has become an important base for talent training, research and innovation in the field of electronic information engineering of Tianjin and it has certain influence in China.
The school has five departments: Department of Electronic Information Engineering, Department of Communication Engineering, Department of Electronic Information Science and Technology, Department of Electronic Science and Technology and Department of Electronic Design Teaching. It has three undergraduate majors: electronic information engineering, communication engineering and electronic science and technology, among which communication engineering is one of the competitive majors in Tianjin and has been approved by the Ministry of Education to cooperate with the University of Wollongong, Australia. Electronic information engineering was selected into the list of “Excellent Engineer Program” and “applied majors in Tianjin” and passed the Engineering Education Accreditation in 2018; electronic science and technology is the applied majors in Tianjin. It offers two master’s degree programs in information and communication engineering, electronic science and technology, and two Master degree programs of Engineering in electronics and communication engineering and integrated circuit engineering.
Now the school has 133 faculty members, including 29 teachers with the titles of talent at and above ministerial and provincial levels. Besides, 45 teachers have professional titles above associate professors.
Currently there are 2,508 students, including 556 graduate students and 1952 undergraduates. The students have won many awards and honors such as National Scholarships, National Scholarships for Encouragement, Tianjin Municipal People's Government Scholarships, Tianjin Science and Engineering Scholarships, Wang Kechang Scholarships, Qian Zhiguang Scholarships. Besides, excellent results have been got in national and Tianjin mathematics and English competitions, mathematical modeling and electronic design.
Having observed the school motto of“Rigorous, Strict, Practical, Truthful for a long time, we, after years of efforts and innovation, have run the school with the education features of “solid foundation”,“extensive application ”,“strict standards and“practice-oriented. So far, we have cultivated nearly 10,000 undergraduate students and around 1,000 graduate students for our country. Over the past ten years, we have compiled and published dozens of textbooks, monographs, and translated books. We won one National Teaching Achievement Award, and three prizes for national planning textbooks. We have Tianjin Electric and Electronic Excellent Teaching Experiment Center.
The school, focusing on the scientific research of the significant demands and disciplines innovations of the country and Tianjin, has formed its own characteristic in research areas such as modern communication networks and systems, photoelectric information processing and transmission, electronic equipment development, development and application of modern sensor technology, and images processing and pattern recognition, semiconductor device design and large-scale integrated circuit design, high-power semiconductor lighting application systems , etc. In recent years, it has undertaken dozens of national, ministerial, and provincial scientific research projects, with an annual research fund of more than 10 million yuan, and has achieved a number of high-level scientific research achievements and won scientific research prizes at different levels.
We have made an active effort to launch international exchanges and collaborations with the University of Wollongong in “X+Y” cooperative education program. At the same time, we also cooperate with some famous universities, research institutions and enterprises at home and abroad such as the United Kingdom, South Korea, New Zealand and Singapore and good results have been made.
